The time and effort taken to prepare for a negotiation are crucial in ensuring the success of the negotiating parties. The negotiator can realize the importance of the preparation time by analyzing some of the things one needs to achieve through the negotiation. The negotiator attains a maximized aspiration since all aspects are considered. In the example, Janice took the time to realize what she needed to earn while working in the said company. She knew that the pay was higher than what her colleagues received and how to counter the offer.

Are we practising Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you? What is our top priority in life? Is it not to put God first as God requires of us? Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Yet, Many People Put Other Things First. Some will put job or profession first. Yes, it is important for a Christian to be a good worker. Be careful not to let whatever or whoever that is dear to our life to stand between us and faithful service to God, lest will be unworthy of the Lord. What Does It Mean to Put God First or to Seek First the Kingdom? Putting God first in our life means that we conform our lives to His biblical principles. Romans 12:2 tells us And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Are we living our lives guided by biblical principles or by some worldly philosophy? Is our mind being transformed each day by the faithful reading of Gods Word? The more we read the Bible, the more we will have the mind of Christ and know the good, acceptable and perfect will of God to guide us through life. Putting God first means serving in His kingdom. 2 Cor 5:20, Now then we are ambassadors for Christ An ambassador is supposed to serve his king. Unfortunately, God has many ambassadors who poorly represent Him to this lost and dying world. If the lost is to hear the Gospel and be saved, we must be actively serving our King and seeing that Gospel preached at home and around the world. How active are we in witnessing for the Lord? Putting God first means putting His church first. The local church is the only organization Christ left down here to do His work! Or should it be organism because it is supposed to be growing. And as we have been saved and still left in this world, we are to be part of a local body of Christ. We are to serve Christ through the local church! It is the body of Christ, and being part of the body of Christ, we need to come together and work together, whether you are the leg or the hand, whether with one talent or with five, we need one another, for the sake of Christs body to grow. We owe it all to the local church which God has by His providence put us in. We are to serve Him and with fellow brethren with high priority. We owe the church our presence. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching (Hebrews 10:25). Do I attend every gathering of Gods people that I can? Do we hear some Christians saying, You know, it is not commanded that we assemble on Saturday afternoon or on Tuesday evening, as if it were a light thing to miss an assembly of Gods people. I am sure that you realize I am not talking about being providentially hindered, by things over which we have no control. God knows when we are sick or unable to attend. I am talking about willfully missing gatherings of Gods people. Just because there is something else we desire to do or somewhere else we had rather be. We should eagerly anticipate the opportunity to encourage each other, to lend our thoughts in prayer, to raise our voices in songs of praise, to offer a friendly handshake to both member and visitor. To be a part of the family of God. We owe the church our prayers. Paul asked the church to pray for him on many occasions. James 5:16 tells us to pray for one another. Who knows what mighty things this church could do if everyone was praying together? We owe the church our promise and commitment. What I am talking about is real commitment which we have promised the Lord what we will do for the church being of one mind, of one purpose. We ought to totally give of ourselves faithfully to the ministry of this church. Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [not the ministry of only the pastor, but also of all in the body of Christ] 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: Here is the commitment of everyone in the body of Christ. In the everyday world we understand what commitment means: We take out a 30 year mortgage on a house. What have we done? Committed ourself to 360 monthly payments. And we signed many papers assuring that we realize the commitment we have made. We go to work for an employer and a commitment is involved. We are going to be there on time, ready to work the committed hours. We are going to do an honest days work for an honest days pay. The reason? The Lord is watching and we made a commitment (Eph. 5:5-8). We marry someone a lifelong commitment. We are going to love one another, labor together, trust and honor one another, until death do us part. Commitment! How people commit themselves in the things they find to do. Look at the sportsmen and sportswomen. An Olympic swimmer would swim 8,000 meters just about every day when in training. Thats 160 laps in an Olympic size pool. A world famous basketball player would eat, drink, and sleep basketball. All champions are like that. Now that is Commitment! Here is a little test for all of us. Ask yourself the question, Has service to God become boring? Do I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to attend services and worship our Creator? If the answer is NO, one problem may be a lack of real sacrifice on our part. How to overcome your boredom? It is by joyous participation. Psalms 100:2 reminds us, Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Nothing is more boring than religion devoid of meaningful and joyful service. But Praise God for there is Gods Reward to Those Who Seek First the Kingdom. All these things shall be added unto you. The Lord is talking here about material needs which we read about from vv. 25-32. Do you believe? Is God a liar or did Jesus mean what He said? Putting God first means that we will have our needs met. If you have trusted in Christ in His promise of eternal life, why cant we simply trust Him to take care of our temporal needs here on earth? King David observed in Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Remember the testimony of George Muller? Testimony: One night when the children at the orphanage had all gone to sleep, George Muller realized that there was not bread for the breakfast the next morning. He then asked his friend, a guest at the orphanage, to join him in prayer. Muller told his visitor that there was absolutely nothing in the house for next mornings breakfast. The friend reminded Muller that all the stores were closed which Muller knew very well. But he prayed as he always prayed. They went to bed and slept. And lo, and behold, in the morning, there was in abundance at the usual breakfast hour bread for two thousand children. Neither Muller nor his friend ever knew how the answer came. The story was told that the Lord called a baker out of bed in the middle of the night to send breakfast to Mullers orphanage, and knowing nothing of the need, or of the two men at prayer, the baker sent provisions that would feed the children for a month. God is faithful! He keeps His promises! Put Him first and then just watch Him bless you! Would you dare take up this challenge?! Conclusion We are facing a hard life, and with things getting really hectic, so much so that sometimes we might become confused with our own priorities. But lets keep our focus clear! What is most important for us is to put God first in every area of our lives, and all things will fall into place nicely. GOD HAS ALWAYS REQUIRED MAN TO PUT HIM FIRST! Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. Fate in Oedipus Rex Do you think that fate controls the lives of everyday people, or do you think someone's actions control their lives?   In the play, Oedipus Rex, fate played an important role in the lives of the characters. .   In order to avoid their predestined fate, the main characters took every precaution to avoid their predetermined destinies.   The queen, Iocasta, and her son, Oedipus, both tried to escape what Teriresias, the oracle, told them, however, it would eventually come back to haunt them.   [Fate controlled the lives of the characters in this play...] NEW THESIS   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When queen Iocasta found that she and king Laius were to have child, she went to consult an oracle for guidance.   However, Teriresias had a devastating prophecy that their first born son would kill the king his father, and marry his mother.   In order to prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, the king upon the birth of his son pierced the baby's feet with an iron pin to prevent the baby from using his feet.   The king ordered a shepherd to abandon the child in the mountains, to be left to die.   [The shepherd, in spite of his order from the king, gave the baby, instead, to one of his friends, a herdsman from Corinth.   The herdsman gave the baby to his master, the king of Corinth.   It was with this family that Oedipus grew up not knowing his real family or the fate that awaited him.]   AVOID SUMMARY!!!   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As Oedipus became a young man, he went to consult the same oracle that his biological mother queen Iocasta did.   Teriresias the oracle told Oedipus the same prophecy that he had previously revealed to queen Iocasta, his mother.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Oedipus, in order to escape his prophesized fate, fled Corinth never to return.   He was unaware that he was adopted.   During his journey, Oedipus came across an old vile tempered man who insulted him.   Oedipus, in defense of his honor, slayed the old man and all of his servants.   Upon reaching Thebes, Oedipus was asked a riddle by the Sphinx of Thebes.   The Sphinx is a monster that is part lion, part eagle, and part human female and like to ask riddles. [ The question she asked was what walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon and three legs at night.   Oedipus answered the question correctly, and the Sphinx left.

My Passion

Cooking is my passion. It allows me to be creative when I’m normally not. Anything I cook makes me feel good: desserts, lunch, dinner, or snacks. I’m most relaxed in the kitchen, apron on, and ingredients everywhere. It’s like a challenge to see what’s in my fridge and pantry and to see what I can create. Every pot and pan I have waiting on my stove, a pantry full of ingredients at my leisure, an eager family waiting in the other room, ideas tumbling around in my head, utensils cleaned and ready, my mind goes somewhere else and I am in my element. My passion is waiting.The simpler the ingredients, the better. I can’t decide whether to use pasta, rice, or potatoes. My hands instinctively grab for the olive oil to prep my saute pan. A dish in my house is not complete without garlic so I start there. Within minutes I have the veggies sauteing, the pasta boiling, the salad resting, the meat searing, and the fresh bread baking. The aroma wakes my family from whatever they were doing and they join me in the kitchen to chitchat and watch me work. Swatting my husband’s hands as he attempts to sneak a bite is instinctual; he has to wait for the finished product like everyone else.The meat is resting and waiting to be sliced, the fresh bread is cooling on a platter, the water glasses are waiting to be filled, and the table is set. I get anxious as everything is finishing at once and my husband helps by draining and tossing the pasta with some olive oil to keep it from sticking. The veggies are perfectly tender in the garlic butter cream sauce and look beautiful atop the tri color pasta. I feel proud that my family enjoys my cooking as much as I do. Their joy is the reason I love it so much. It’s finally time to eat.

STRAT 8 (Developmental Reading October 2011 CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE Introduction We choose this topic because we want to know how the freshmen students cope up with their everyday lessons with their learning styles. Recognizing which style is your preferred one is not to suggest that one is better than other, rather it serves to help you work out strategies when a certain teaching methods don’t suit your style and to challenge you to develop in all areas. Basically, once you identify your preferred style(s), take advantage of your strengths and work to develop your weaker areas. Each person has their own type of learning style. A learning style is a method in which each of us utilizes to better understand material. A preferred learning style is a style in which the person can learn best, reflecting their strengths and weaknesses of the individual. In order to understand material we take it all in with our senses, through sight, sound, touch, smell or taste. Multiple Intelligence theory maintains that there are at least seven learning styles (â€Å"intelligences†): interpersonal, intra-personal, body/kinesthetic, visual/spatial, mathematical/logical, verbal/linguistic and musical/rhythmic (Lazear, D. 1991). For the purposes of this paper I will simplify the seven categories into three main categories in which people best learn information: auditory, visual and tactile/kinesthetic. Most people possess the ability to use all three learning styles but learn best using one specific learning style. Statement of the Problem The study aimed to identify the different learning styles preferred by the selected Freshmen Education students of Villaflores College, Tanjay City for School Year 2011-2012. Specifically the study seeks the answer to the following questions: . What is the profile of our student/respondents in relation to: *age; *gender; *address; *size of the family; *educational attainment of parents; 2. What are the different learning styles used by the freshmen education students? 3. To what extent do the learning styles help the students cope up with their everyday lessons? 4. Is there a significant relationship between the learning styles of the students/respondents and their academi c performance? Significance of the Study This work has significance to the following: Students. If they know their learning styles and can articulate their needs, they can go on to address these needs with appropriate assistance. Teachers. When they identify key elements of individual learning styles, they can match instruction and materials with those individual differences providing students with a method for learning that can lead to their improved achievement and increased ability to exercise control over their own program. Moreover knowledge of learning styles would also enable them to assist students with a program that will fit the pupils learning styles strengths. Parents. Parental influences are normally more accepted by students in their formative years, parent’s knowledge of their children’s learning styles would help them in the follow-up of their children’s learning styles. Department of Education (DepEd). The result of the study will provide DepEd the insights on how to improve teaching based on students individual learning styles. Researchers. They should further their queries on the effectiveness of learning style-based instruction so that students can be provided with opportunities to improve their academic performance. Scope and Limitation of the Study The study was conducted in Villaflores College, Tanjay City with the freshmen Education students from the regular classes as respondent. Definition of Terms – Important terms in this study are defined either conceptually on operationally for a clearer understanding of its contents. Department of Education – The government agency tasked to give the basic education in the elementary, secondary and tertiary level. Freshmen Education Students – These refer to the students of Villaflores College enrolled in the Freshmen level in the Regular classes for the School Year 2011-2012. Learning Styles – Refer to the different approaches or ways of learning. It is a student’s consistent way of responding to and using stimuli in the context of learning, Villaflores College – A private school in Tanjay City. It is where the respondents of this study are enrolled in. Cognitive Theory – suggests that individuals process information differently on the basis of either acquired or inherent traits. Many researchers investigated the variables of field dependence and independence, global and analytic, simultaneous and successive, and left-right-preferred processing. As they conducted studies to determine the student’s characteristics that appeared to be more or less responsive to environmental THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY The concepts and theories gathered based on readings from books and the internet are used as basis for determining the theoretical framework of the study. Learning styles are biologically and developmentally set of personal characteristics that make the identical types of instruction affective for some students and ineffective to other. Though initially conceived as an outgrowth of practitioner’s observations this learning styles model traces its roots to two distinct learning theories. Cognitive Style Theory Cognitive Theory suggests that individuals process information differently on the basis of either acquired or inherent traits. Many researchers investigated the variables of field dependence and independence, global and analytic, simultaneous and successive, and left-right-preferred processing. As they conducted studies to determine the student’s characteristics that appeared to be more or less responsive to environmental emotional sociological and psychological stimuli, they found out that selected variables often clustered together. Indeed relationships appeared to exist between learning persistently, in quiet and bright light, in formal setting arrangements and with little or no intake, and being and analytic left processor (Dunn, Bruno, Sklar and Beaudry, 1990); (Dunn, Cavanaugh, Elerle and Zenhausern, 1982). Similarly, young people who often requested breaks while learning and who learned more, easily in soft lighting, with sound in the environment, seated formally, and with snacks, often revealed high scores as right processors. Field dependence versus field independence correlated in many ways with global versus an analytic cognitive and, again, seemed to elicit the same clustering as right- and left- preferences students did. In some cases, more attributes allied themselves with global/right tendencies than with their counterparts. Thus, although global/rights often enjoyed working with peers and using their tactual strengths, analytic/left did not reveal the reverse nor did the sociological or perceptual characteristics evidences consistent similarities. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences Howard Garner conceived the theory of multiple intelligences. He identified eight (8) different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability. The types of multiple intelligences are: Visual or Spatial Intelligence (Picture Smart) – learning visually and organizing ideas spatially. Seeing concepts in action in order to understand them. The ability to â€Å"see† things in one’s mind in planning to create a product or solve a problem. This type of intelligence is sensitive of representing ideas visually, creating mental images, noticing visual details drawing and sketching . And has the ability to create visually and visualize accurately. Verbal or Linguistic (Word Smart) – learning through the spoken and written word. This intelligence was always valued in the traditional classroom and in the traditional assessments of intelligence and achievement. This type of intelligence is sensitive of speaking, writing, listening and reading. And has the ability to speak effectively. Mathematical or Logical (Number Smart or Logic Smart) – learning through reasoning and problem solving. Also highly valued in the traditional classroom, where students were asked to adopt to logically sequenced delivery of instruction. This type of intelligence is sensitive of finding patterns, making calculations forming and testing hypothesis, using scientific method and deductive and inductive reasoning. And has the ability to work effectively with numbers and reason effectively. Bodily or Kinesthetic (Body Smart) – learning through interaction with one’s environment. This intelligence is not the domain of â€Å"overly active† learners. It promotes understanding through concrete experience. This type of intelligence is sensitive to activities requiring strength, speed, flexibility, hand-eye coordination and balance. And has the ability to use the hands to fix or create and use the body expressively. Musical (Music Smart) – learning through patterns, rhythms and music. This includes not only auditory learning, but the identification of patterns through all the senses. This type of intelligence is sensitive to listening, singing, playing an instrument. And has the ability to create and analyze music. Intrapersonal (Self Smart) – learning through feelings, values and attitudes. This is deductively affective component of learning through which students place value on what they learn and take ownership for their learning. This type of intelligence is sensitive to setting goals, assessing personal abilities and liabilities and monitoring one’s own thinking. And has the ability to meditate, reflect, exhibits self-discipline, maintain composure, and get the most out of oneself. Interpersonal (People Smart) – learning through interaction with others. Not the domain of children who are simply â€Å"talkative† or â€Å"overly social†. This intelligence promotes collaboration and working cooperatively with others. This type of intelligence is sensitive to noticing and responding to other people’s feelings and personalities. And has the ability to work with people and help people identify and overcome problems. Naturalist (Nature Smart) – learning through classification, categories and hierarchies. The naturalist intelligence picks up on subtle differences in meaning. It is not simply the study of nature; it can be used in all areas of study. This type of intelligence is sensitive to identify and classify living things and natural objects. And has the ability to analyze ecological and natural situations and data and to work in natural settings. Existential (Spirit Smart) – learning is seeing the â€Å"big picture† â€Å"Why are we here? † â€Å"What is my role in the world? † â€Å"What is my place in my family, school and community? † This intelligence seeks connections to real world understanding and application of new learning. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY The study assessed the preferred learning styles among the freshmen college students in Villaflores College. The study examined the profile of the students respondents and the significant relationship of the preferred learning styles and their profile. The variables and their relationship are shown in the conceptual framework. The diagram further shows two interactive arrows toward the socio-economic variable and learning styles strengths and weaknesses to show dynamism and interrelationship of the different components. The identified learning styles strength or weaknesses will be the basis for an enrichment plan for teaching strategies compatible to the learning styles of the freshmen college students of Villaflores College. Review of Related Literature and Studies Related Literature Everybody has strengths, although a parents strengths tend to differ from those of the other parents, from those of their offspring and from those of their own parents. Thus, mother and father often learn differently from each other and also from their children. Nevertheless, parents commonly insist that children study and do their homework as they themselves did when they were young. That approach is not likely to be effective for at least some of the siblings because within the same family, different individuals usually learn in diametrically opposite ways. Learning style then is the way by which each learner begins to concentrate on, process and retain new and difficult information. That interaction occurs differently for every individual. To identify a person’s learning style pattern, it is necessary to examine each individual’s multidimensional characteristics to determine what is most likely to trigger each student’s concentration, maintain it, respond to his or her natural processing style, and lead to a long-term memory (Dunn, Dunn and Perrin, 1994). There are many models to identifying learning styles. One of these is the widely known learning style model of Dunn and Dunn. This learning style uses the three main sensory receivers- Vision, Auditory, and Kinesthetic to determine the dominant learning style of the learners. Its main strength is that it is quite simple, which appeals to a lot of people. The learner may prefer one style of learning for one task, and a combination of others for one task. However, one or more of these styles are dominant. This dominant style defines the best way for a person to learn and perceive information. Some hints for indentifying the different learning styles are: . Visual Learners. These types of learners can learn fast when they see, watch and observed what has to be learned. They easily visualize faces and places by using their imagination. They seldom get lost in new surroundings. They learn better with charts, demonstrations and other visual materials. They pay better attention to lectures if they watch them. b. Auditory Learners. These types of learners do better and can retain information by listening to lectures, tapes and discussions. They remember information by forming the sound of words rather than by reading silently. . Kinesthetic Learners. These learners do best while touching and moving. They tend to lose concentration if there is little or no external stimulation of movement. When listening to lectures they may want to take notes. When reading, they like to scan the material first and focus on the details. They like to draw pictures, diagrams or doodle things. Related Studies One goal of educational research is to discover a method of instruction which enables teachers to teach students effectively and efficiently in the classroom. Researchers have faintly provided knowledge on how children perceive, interact with and respond to the learning environment. But, within the educational reform arena of the 1980’s, a renewed interest styles emerged. Ebert in 1994 conducted a study learning style profile of vocational students. A multi-stage, cluster sampling of students enrolled in vocational education program in Pennsylvania was identified. The Learning Style Profile developed and distributed by the NASSP (1986) was administered to 580 students enrolled in randomly selected vocational education programs. Learning Styles Profiles of students for each program and a composite profile were established. Learning styles of vocational education students enrolled in these selected programs were found to be similar to that of the national population. The popular notion that the vocational education students differ from non-vocational education students based on their inaccurate learning style. If differences exist between vocational and non-vocational education students then the difference is the result of something other than learning style. Students enrolled vocational education programs could be taught using the same methods and with the same expectations as students enrolled in non-vocational education programs. Teachers should employ methods of instructions which address a variety of learning styles and be prepared to assist students to use knowledge of learning styles to facilitate learning. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research Design The study utilized the descriptive method of research. It described the different learning styles of students. It further examined present conditions as far as learning styles and profiles of the student/respondents are concerned. Research Respondents There were a total of 164 freshmen education students who serve as respondents of these study, 116 students from Bachelor of Elementary Education and 48 from Bachelor of Secondary Education. Fortunately, the researchers were able to retrieve all the questionnaire forms within the allotted span of time. Research Environment Villaflores College is located in Legaspi St. Tanjay City with the land area of 3 hectares. There is a terrible poignancy in almost every line that Desdemona utters in this scene. Shakespeare has portrayed Desdemona as a tragic figure as even though Othello has treated her terribly she still wants to please him. We must not now displease him. Desdemona is respectful and faithful towards her husband and continues to be so even after his terrible behaviour. No, unpin me here. Here Desdemona realises she is more vulnerable in her night clothes. Shakespeare is showing that Desdemona undressing is like her removing her armour. This gives the audience a sense of foreboding as it seems like Desdemona is aware of what is to come. Desdemona speaks to Emilia about the Willow song this reflects her own sadness and points to her own death. She feels abandoned as she sings and is aware of her impending death. This shows Desdemona as tragic as she knows what is going to happen inevitably however she still does not know why. The Willow song is a dramatic device as willows symbolise disappointed love, which is exactly what she is experiencing. She is anxious and her tale of her mothers maid and willow song foreshadows her own death. The willow scene relaxes the tension comparative quietness and calm before the storm of the last scene. The song reinforces the melancholy atmosphere and prepares us for the tragic outcome; in the song the woman refuses to blame her lover and approves his scorn. Desdemona is a complete contrast to the woman who stood up to her father in defence of Othello; she now seems weak and unable to defend herself. In Act 2 Scene 1 Desdemona dismisses Iagos remarks as old bar-room jokes. These are old fond paradoxes to makes fools laugh ithalehouse. That miserable praise hast thou her thats foul and foolish? Here Desdemona is engaging Iago in debate. She is standing up for herself and what she believes in; this is tragic as the audience can see a clear change in Desdemonas personality. Let nobody blame him; his scorn I approve Nay, thats not next. Hark, who ist that knocks? Here Desdemona has added a line to the song suggesting that she is nervous and on the edge. Emilia and Desdemona continue to talk and they are discussing the act of committing adultery, Desdemona says she would not do such a wrong thing. Emilia argues that mens treatment of their wives is often the cause of womens falling. She states that women have desires and weaknesses just as much as men. Men should beware or women will learn from how they are abused to abuse them. However, Desdemona perseveres in her view and shows Emilia and the audience that she would rather learn to improve from, rather than copy and abuse. Here we see the complete contrast in characters. Desdemona is completely faithful to Othello which makes their situation all the more tragic. Emilia does not seem phased by being unfaithful whereas Desdemona is shocked by this idea. That there be women do abuse their husbands in such gross kind? She is appalled by this idea and this adds to the fact that she is completely innocent. Desdemonas fate is unfair and unearned, yet she is the tragic female heroine who ends up being sacrificed to satisfy the fates. Aristotle taught that tragedy is composed of six elements: plot-structure, character, style, spectacle, and lyric poetry. The characters in a tragedy are merely a means of driving the story; and the plot, is the chief focus of tragedy. It is the imitation of action arousing pity and fear, and is meant to affect the catharsis of those same emotions. In Aristotles definition of tragedy Shakespeare has definitely portrayed Desdemona as a tragic figure. If the characters are a means of driving the story then the play wouldnt have a plot if it werent for Desdemona. Othello, Desdemona and Iago are the three main characters involved to form the plot along with others. The plot is the chief focus of tragedy therefore Desdemona is playing part in creating the tragedy for the play. S. N. Garner elucidates Desdemonas character, maintaining that Shakespeare carefully balanced the other characters accounts of her as goddess or whore to present a complex portrait. Othellos sensual view is countered by Brabantios idealized concept in Act 1 and Roderigo and Cassios romanticized vision is opposed by Iagos coarse innuendo in Act 2. Garner then points out that Desdemonas liveliness and assertiveness are confirmed by her marriage to Othello and that these positive traits become a fatal. Here we can see that Garner believes that eventually Desdemonas traits became fatal to her character. This links in with Aristotles definition of tragedy as he also says that their downfall is caused by a series of bad choices caused by tragic flaws in their character. This could suggest that it is partly Desdemonas character that has increased the tragedy between Othello and herself.

Structural Equation Modeling Structural equation modeling is an advanced statistical technique that has many layers and many complex concepts. Researchers who use structural equation modeling have a good understanding of basic statistics, regression analyses, and factor analyses. Building a structural equation model requires rigorous logic as well as a deep knowledge of the field’s theory and prior empirical evidence. This article provides a very general overview of structural equation modeling without digging into the intricacies involved. Structural equation modeling is a collection of statistical techniques that allow a set of relationships between one or more independent variables and one or more dependent variables to be examined. Both independent and dependent variables can be either continuous or discrete and can be either factors or measured variables. Structural equation modeling also goes by several other names: causal modeling, causal analysis, simultaneous equation modeling, analysis of covariance structures, path analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. When exploratory factor analysis is combined with multiple regression analyses, the result is structural equation modeling (SEM). SEM allows questions to be answered that involve multiple regression analyses of factors. At the simplest level, the researcher posits a relationship between a single measured variable and other measured variables. The purpose of SEM is to attempt to explain â€Å"raw† correlations among directly observed variables. Path Diagrams Path diagrams are fundamental to SEM because they allow the researcher to diagram the hypothesized model, or set of relationships. These diagrams are helpful in clarifying the researcher’s ideas about the relationships among variables and can be directly translated into the equations needed for analysis. Path diagrams are made up of several principles: Measured variables are represented by squares or rectangles. Factors, which are made up of two or more indicators, are represented by circles or ovals. Relationships between variables are indicated by lines; lack of a line connecting the variables implies that no direct relationship is hypothesized. All lines have either one or two arrows. A line with one arrow represents a hypothesized direct relationship between two variables, and the variable with the arrow pointing toward it is the dependent variable. A line with an arrow at both ends indicates an unanalyzed relationship with no implied direction of effect. Research Questions Addressed by Structural Equation Modeling The main question asked by structural equation modeling is, â€Å"Does the model produce an estimated population covariance matrix that is consistent with the sample (observed) covariance matrix?† After this, there are several other questions that SEM can address. Adequacy of the model: Parameters are estimated to create an estimated population covariance matrix. If the model is good, the parameter estimates will produce an estimated matrix that is close to the sample covariance matrix. This is evaluated primarily with the chi-square test statistic and fit indices. Testing theory: Each theory, or model, generates its own covariance matrix. So which theory is best? Models representing competing theories in a specific research area are estimated, pitted against each other, and evaluated.Amount of variance in the variables accounted for by the factors: How much of the variance in the dependent variables is accounted for by the independent variables? This is answered through R-squared-type statistics. Reliability of the indicators: How reliable are each of the measured variables? SEM derives reliability of measured variables and internal consistency measures of reliability.Parameter estimates: SEM generates parameter estimates, or coefficients, f or each path in the model, which can be used to distinguish if one path is more or less important than other paths in predicting the outcome measure. Mediation: Does an independent variable affect a specific dependent variable or does the independent variable affect the dependent variable though a mediating variable? This is called a test of indirect effects. Group differences: Do two or more groups differ in their covariance matrices, regression coefficients, or means? Multiple group modeling can be done in SEM to test this. Longitudinal differences: Differences within and across people across time can also be examined. This time interval can be years, days, or even microseconds.Multilevel modeling: Here, independent variables are collected at different nested levels of measurement (for example, students nested within classrooms nested within schools) are used to predict dependent variables at the same or other levels of measurement. Weaknesses of Structural Equation Modeling Relative to alternative statistical procedures, structural equation modeling has several weaknesses: It requires a relatively large sample size (N of 150 or greater).It requires much more formal training in statistics to be able to effectively use SEM software programs.It requires well-specified measurement and conceptual model. Dystopian society Essay Societies that are futuristic in settings are what we call a dystopian society. Dystopia is literary the opposite of what a utopian community will be like. In dystopia, everything is distorted where people are ruled by either a strong-opposed individual through the use of militarism or technologies and also by technology themselves. Citizens of a dystopian community doesnt hold their own rights and are usually treated inhumanely, creating a fearsome and dark environment. Short stories such as The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson typically follows a dystopian society. The author first introduces the story to be a utopian community where she describes the day as clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green (Para. 1). This entices our feeling of comfort and invites us to see what this day is all about, not knowing of what might happen in the end. The fact that Jackson first introduces us into such a calming scenery but ends it in such a misery, dehumanizes the mindset that such a perfect community can hide such monstrous activity. Dehumanization is a great deal in this short story where the villagers are blindly following the tradition of stoning the lotterys winner to death and treating the event like a festivity. Dehumanization is also seen through the villagers actions such as: The people had done it so many times that they only half listened to the directions; most of them were quite. wetting their lips. not looking around (Para. 20). Jackson creates this sense that these villagers have done it so many times that they dont even care anymore and just what this lottery to be over with, so that they can go back to their daily lives. The villagers were describe as quite because they dont want to make the lottery any longer than it is already and it can also be taken up as an acceptance to the events that follows. Some are wetting their lips which creates this anxiousness and ill-minded thoughts of wanting to kill someone. Excitement that they too will have a bountiful year again through the sacrifice of one of their own. Fear is yet another convention of dystopia that Jackson utilizes in this short story. Fear of the unknown by the audience and the fear of death. Fear is seen through the character of Tessie Hutchinson, who in the beginning of the story where like everybody else. She was nonchalant to the event and was conversing with the villagers like normal people would but all of this changes after she was picked by the lottery. She screams and tell everyone how it isnt fair, it isnt right (Para. 80), which contradicts her actions in the beginning. Fear is also seen where the villagers were not looking around (Para. 20), which describes how they individually doesnt want to see the faces of the people who they will have to kill or know that they can be the one to die that day. The black box that contains the papers of the lottery is a symbolism of fear in the story. It presents death not only by the use of the color black but also because it holds the one paper that is the deciding factor of being the winner of the lottery. This is seen as the villagers kept their distance, leaving a space between themselves and the stool (Para.4), where they are unconsciously afraid of the lottery but doesnt protest about its effects. Divergent and Convergent Plate Margins Comparison â€Å"Compare and Contrast the Topographical Features at Divergent and Convergent Plate Margins.† Jenice Culzac According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) â€Å"a tectonic plate (also called lithospheric plate) is a massive, irregularly shaped slab of solid rock, generally composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere.†[1] There are two types of plates; Oceanic plates are younger crustal plates with a thickness of 5-9km of mainly basaltic composition and Continental plates are older crustal plates with thickness of 25-90Km of mainly granite composition. The area where two of these plates meet is referred to as a plate boundary. Plate tectonics is a recent theory developed around the late 1960’s from two pre-existing theories; Continental Drift by Alfred Wegener and Seafloor Spreading by Harry Hess. It suggests that the Earth is made up of eight large rigid and thick plates along with smaller ones as shown in Diagram 1 that move slowly and change size. Diagram 1 of a World map showing the tectonic plates and their direction of movement Plate tectonics has three types of plate margins or boundaries named accordingly by the type of movement; towards, away and parallel that occurs at these boundaries. They are Convergent, Divergent and Transform plate margins respectively. Due to these movements, associated landforms altering the world’s topography are created except for at Transform plate margins because the parallel movement of plates only causes the release of energy in the form of earthquakes. The aim of this essay is to compare and contrast the topographical features that occur at the Divergent and Convergent plate margins. It is imperative to know what topographical features both these plate margins produce in common at the forefront. Therefore as the discussion goes in depth as to how they are created by different processes, keeping in mind the vision of the end product which is of the same topography will enhance clarity and comprehension. The topographical features that both plate margins produce in common are volcanoes and mountain ranges. A volcano is a mountain like feature that has a vent in which lava, tephra and hot gases are expelled. A mountain range is an area of a series of mountains that are geologically related. Therefore, having established this each plate margin can be dealt with individually. Comparison Convergent plate margin also called Destructive plate margin occurs at a fault where two tectonic plates move towards each other. Due to the nature of the plates involved there can either be subduction in which the area is called a Subduction Zone or a collision in which it is referred to as Collision Zone. Density is the key factor that determines the end result of the plates involved. In the case where the plates moving towards each other are continental and oceanic such as the Indo- Austrlian and Pacific plates respectively. Oceanic plates although having a thickness of 5-9km as compared to continental’s thickness of 25-90km is denser. Hence when an impact occurs as illustrated in Diagram 2 the Oceanic plate subducts under the Continental plate into the mantle and is reabsorbed due to intense heat and pressure. The area at which this occurs is the Subduction Zone. Diagram 2 showing the convergence of an oceanic and a continental plate Lines of weakness referred to as faults can occur within the Continental plate during subduction. As the Oceanic plate subsides water is being taken along with it which produces steam. This build-up of steam adds to the pressure which then forces its way through the faults and allows for magma to erupt violently (referred to as lava when it reaches the Earth’s surface). The lava solidifies due to the cooler surrounding temperatures and forms volcanoes. A chain of these volcanoes is known as the Volcanic Arc. In the example of the plates given, this was how the Cascade Range in North America which is a part of the famously known Pacific Ring of Fire was formed. The frequency of eruptions and viscosity of lava will affect the height and gradient of these volcanoes. Therefore if the lava is less viscous it will run further distances away from the point of origin and create gentler gradients but if the lava is more viscous it will not flow as easily and solidifies at shorter dista nces allowing a faster accumulation. In addition to this scenario we can have the case in which the plates involved at a Convergent plate margin are both Oceanic. The same principle will apply and the denser of the Oceanic plates will subduct. The features produced will have the same general high relief however they are referred to as Island Arc. An example of such is the Japanese Islands where the Pacific and Philippine plates interact. The difference of names is understood if Diagram 2 and Diagram 3 are compared. The volcanoes formed in Diagram 3 are protruding from the Oceanic crust hence the Island (body of small land surrounded by water) term while in Diagram 2 the volcanoes formed protrudes from the continental plate hence the arc is just referred to as volcanic. Diagram 3 showing the convergence of two oceanic plates Volcanoes or volcanic activity are produced at Divergent plate margins regardless of the type of plates involved. When the plates move apart a gap is created which allows the magma to expel and the lava solidifies due to the same conditions as previously mentioned under Oceanic to Oceanic and Oceanic to Continental convergence. Mid ocean ridges are the dominant features formed however within these ridges are the under -water volcanoes. The ridge is indicated in Diagram 4 at the centre where it is labelled. Although the diagram gives the simplicity of an ocean ridge as two parallel lines, in actuality this ocean ridge is an extensive submarine mountain range. Diagram 4 showing the divergence of two oceanic plates The previous point introduces our second common feature, mountain ranges. At the Divergent plate margin the mid oceanic ridge would represent this submarine mountain range. Similarly at Convergent plate margins where Fold Mountains are formed this will represent the mountain ranges as well. These Fold Mountains are formed when two Continental plates travel towards each other. For example Eurasian and Indian plates which will have relatively the same densities. They will collide and fold by compressional forces forming these ranges. This is illustrated in Diagram 5 in which the Continental plate on the right is buckling having collided with the Continental plate on the left thus producing the peaks along the centre of the diagram which represents the mountain range. Diagram 5 showing the convergence of two continental plates With the example of the Continental plates given the Himalayas Mountain Range was formed with peaks of over 8,000 meters in height above sea level. Contrast On the contrary, there are differences between the topographical features of a Convergent and Divergent plate margin. These are Rift Valleys and Ocean Trenches created by divergence and convergence respectively. Rift valleys occur when faults lie at a 120 degrees angle within a Continental plate. When the plates move apart either one of the two scenarios occurs. Scenario one is the pull leaves a segment of the of the Continental plate in the centre which falls below referred to as graben as illustrated in Diagram 6 of the two opposite sides referred to as Horst in the same diagram creating a steep sided narrow valley. Diagram 6 showing the formation of a Rift Valley However, in scenario two instead of the centre segment falling, the lands on either side of the segment can rise due to a release in pressure. Overtime the said segment will reach to a point where it is below sea level causing the land mass to break away from the parent continent and creating a new ocean basin. A perfect illustration of this occurrence is the Great African Rift Valley. Diagram 7 indicates the zone of rifting which runs from Afar Triple Junction to South Mozambique and also offshore of the coast of Mozambique along the Kerimba and Lacerda grabens. Eventually the Somalian plate to the east will be completely separated from the Nubian plate on the west. According to Merriam Webster online dictionary an ocean trench is â€Å"a long, narrow, deep depression in the ocean bed, typically running parallel to a plate boundary and marking a subduction zone.† The steepness of the trench is reliant on the angle at which it is subducted. The movement and location of an ocean trench is illustrated in Diagrams 2 and 3. Diagram 8 gives a three dimensional view of Puerto Rico’s oceanic trench formed at the Caribbean and North America plate boundary. Biography and Work of Guy de Maupassant Guy de Maupassant is acknowledged through the world as one of the masters of the short story; Guy de Maupassant was also the author of a collection of poetry, a volume of plays, three travel journals, six novels, and many chronicles. He produced some three hundred short stories in the single decade from 1880 to 1890; a period during which he produced most of his other works. It is understood that even if food crops increase sufficiently, other renewable resources, including many fisheries and forests, are already under pressure.  ¡Ã‚ §Our food production doubled from 1961 to 1994, but there are still people who go hungry. ¡Ã‚ ¨ (popindex.Princeton.edu) This is because the human population has increased more rapidly than the food production. One of the well-known economists Thomas Robert Malthus claimed that there was an imbalance between population growth and our ability to produce food. In his famous work, An Essay on the Principle of Population, his principle of population was based on three main points: population cannot increase without the means of subsistence ; population invariable increases when the means of subsistence are available; and the superior power of population cannot be checked without producing misery or vice. When taking into account Malthus ¡Ã‚ ¦s principle of population it is evident that his fundamental analysis of population has been proven right. Since the earth ¡Ã‚ ¦s resources are finite, when human population increases, it affects human beings. Will there be a problem if population keeps increasing? Rapid population growth and the technical development of society have led to difficulties for farmers worldwide to maintain this dual compatibility. In fact, today farmers face demands for a high productivity as well as environmentally sound, sustainable farming practices. Some economists believe human beings have the ability to produce enough food to feed all the people in the world, but according to Malthus ¡Ã‚ ¦s theory, this cannot happen. When the number of people keeps increasing while the amount of available food stays the same or even declines, human beings will face a scarcity of resources and overpopulation in the world. This is what happening right now. According to a well known biologist-Paul R. Ehrlich, who said  ¡Ã‚ §The amount of food available restrains the size of any animal population, unless space, dise ase, predators, or some other factor sets lower limits ¡Ã‚ ¨(Ehrlich, 66). The only way to solve the problem between the population growth and the food supply is to reduce our population by using contraceptive tools. How to Reduce Air Pollution Essay

Air pollution is an issue of concern to the world. Pollution in our environment will undoubtedly affect our quality of life and it can also cause various health problems and other negative effects. As a result, we want to find way out. Three simple solutions to reduce air pollution such as reducing the using of vehicles, cutting down the using of machineries and planting trees. The first necessary way to solve this problem is to cutting down the using of machineries. We should try to use more human labor rather than machines in production or farming activities. For instance, people in our country can use handy craft products and do their farm by the human being like doing farm in a traditional way without using any kind of tractors. Furthermore, for the products which are made by machines, such as paper, bottles, cans, or plastic bags, we should re-use and recycle them as possible as we can instead of producing more products. The machines will rest from production and also rest from dispose CO2 to the air. The second way to solve this problem is to reduce the using of vehicles. People should change from travel by their own car or motorbike to travel by public transportation such as taxies, buses, or trains. When we can cut down the amount of cars or motorbikes on the street, the amount of CO2 also decrease and we can save our air. Moreover, you will save money while you do your segment to reduce air pollution. According to Science Applications International Corporation (2007), â€Å"Public transportation use reduces travel by private vehicles.† (p.2). The third way we have to do is planting trees. Trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, cleaning up air pollution every day, so we have to reduce cutting down of it. According to McPherson (2003), â€Å"Leaves of trees absorb or intercept air pollutants, including small particulate matter and the components of smog.† (p.1). In addition, the trees help cool neighborhoods to create less need for air conditioning. In conclusion, we must work together to reduce pollution so that the future generations can live in a healthy, unpolluted environment.

As you’ll know there were heavy rains and harsh winds smashing in New York and New Jersey and there was a flooding yesterday on Sunday.The hurricane stirred up to 7 foot waves!Therfore I declare that the streets,subways and homes of New York and New Jersey have to get emptied.The people have to move to safe refuge areas, where I insure you’ll there will be protection.I have also spoken to all the governors who will then brief you’ll in detail.The death toll is also raising, there were 46 deaths yesterday. 25 people have died due to topples treeand other hurricane related incidents.Thus, it is my humble request to all of you to not take it lightly and be cautious. We will also keep people posted to keep a watch on the hurricane. According the weather reporters there is going to high tide which will cause flooding Tuesday, so please stay indoors and inform your friends,family members and your close one.Due to this we are also postponing three Major League Soccer games.45 flights have been canceled due to the hurricane. If you are in the projected path of this hurricane, you have to take precautions,be alert now.Don’t wait.Don’t delay.We all hope for the best, but we have to be prepared for the worst.So if you’re in the way of this hurricane, you should be preparing now.I want you’ll to exercise caution by seeing updates on the television and listening to the radio.There are some safety measures that you’ll have to take- Secure your homes with closed storm shutter or even card board would be okay. I have proven to myself countless of times that I remember more clearly those occurrences or behaviors if I see it being performed. I prefer to observe since I am the type who remembers anything that I have paid careful attention to. Does the interviewee prefers studying in a library, or at home where there are background noises and some distractions? My friend opts to stay in the house to study (Carducci, 2008). He says he cannot focus on his lessons without his personal computer and subwoofers switched on (Carducci, 2008). It is very important that something noisy is present while he studies because otherwise he might just doze off and not accomplish anything at the end of the day (Carducci, 2008). He also stated that he likes to walk around the living room or his own room while reading his lessons aloud (Carducci, 2008). This is another major reason why he does not want to study in the library; he says â€Å"I will only be asked to keep quiet and may even be requested to leave the premises if I study in that manner† (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I cannot do what he does though. I am the type who would be more efficient and effective in studying if I stay in a quiet place like the library. I prefer to stay there if my purpose is to grasp the readings and lessons that the exam will cover. In addition to that, the references that I need for further inquiry are found there and so I must stay in the library to study; computers are available as well in case I need online references. Reading/reviewing while listening to music or any kind of distraction involving sounds just does not go together for me. III. Had the person you are interviewing taken the Myers Briggs test? Report the results.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Yes, the interviewee already experienced taking the Myers Briggs test (Humanmetrics, 2007). The following feedback resulted from the â€Å"Carl Jung and Isabel Myers-Briggs typological approach to personality† (Humanmetrics, 2007). According to the aforementioned, the interviewee is â€Å"very expressed extravert; that he possesses slightly expressed sensing personality; that he has a moderately expressed thinking personality; as well as slightly expressed judging personality† (Humanmetrics, 2007). He is then excessively extroverted, slightly thinking, moderately sensing, and to some extend a perceiving individual (Humanmetrics, 2007).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The results that I got after answering numerous questions are the following: â€Å"that I am distinctively expressed introvert; moderately expressed intuitive personality; moderately expressed feeling personality; and distinctively expressed judging personality† (Humanmetrics, 2007). It says that I am introverted and equally judging; as well as, intuitive and equally feeling (Humanmetrics, 2007). Which experiences does this person feel contributed most in the development of his/her personality?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The interviewee stated that there were countless experiences that he went through (Carducci, 2008). He believes that all these contributed largely in the development of his personality (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   First of all, he comes from an unprivileged family (Carducci, 2008).   During his elementary and high school days, he struggled too much as he cannot even go to school everyday because there was no money to be spent on food (Carducci, 2008).   He said it was too difficult to stay focused in the lessons or anything that’s going on in the classroom with an empty stomach for two or three days straight (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Second, his father usually does not have a job (Carducci, 2008). In cases where he finds one, the longest time that he is able to stay is only four weeks (Carducci, 2008).   This is because he is a drunkard and sometimes would go to work extremely drunk (Carducci, 2008).   Since such behavior poses great threat to other employees, eventually he is fired (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Third, his father comes home without money and would check on the fridge if there was food to eat (Carducci, 2008).   If he does not find anything, he would lash out at his mother and/or attack her (Carducci, 2008).   His mother would be whipped, slapped, punched, and even thrown (Carducci, 2008).   If he tries to protect his mother and fight his father off, then they would both get hurt at the end of the day (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Fourth, his mother would release her anger on him and his brothers and sisters (Carducci, 2008). She would shout at them, threaten them that she is going to leave them behind because she could no longer take it (Carducci, 2008). She would state that her life would not be so excruciatingly difficult if she did not have a husband and children like them (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Fifth, his little sister turned suicidal because of the family problems that they went through (Carducci, 2008).   He would feel hopeless and helpless because of his little sisters numerous attempts (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Sixth, his father was sent to prison because of violence against women and children (Carducci, 2008).   He feels hurt but at the same time relieved that he no longer has to put up with him (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Seventh, before he can even recover from his â€Å"loss†, he feels he is going to lose another important loved one again as his mother remarries a younger man (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   It turned out though that his stepfather is a nice, brilliant, open-minded man who cares deeply for his mother and for his brothers and sisters (Carducci, 2008).   In fact, he sent him to one of the best schools when he decided he wanted to attend college and finish a Baccalaureate course (Carducci, 2008).   He also sent his brothers and sisters to school (Carducci, 2008). In addition to that, he put up a small flower shop for his mother who finished BS Management in college; he said it is about time that his mother also attends to enriching her own career (Carducci, 2008). He also bought each and everyone their needs (and even some of their wants); in fact, he got a personal computer, his brothers received game boy, his sisters got branded dolls, etc (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   His stepfather also brought him to places that he has never been into including the following: â€Å"Transamerica Pyramid, Bank of America, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Haight-Ashbury, Coit Memorial Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California Academy of Sciences, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio, Alcatraz, University of California, Berkeley† (Carducci, 2008). The trip gave him an opportunity to bond with someone who can be a father to him, who can guide him as he goes along, and who can protect him as he battles with life’s surprises and difficulties (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   He learned to be strong as he went through poverty, abuse from his father, etc (Carducci, 2008). He became even stronger when his extra nice stepfather came along (Carducci, 2008). The training that he got from his stepfather and the good examples showed to him played a large role in the development of his personality (Carducci, 2008). I have my own experiences as well that helped in the development of my personality. First of all, I have a mother who is very supportive and proud of whatever I have accomplished. Second, I was brought up to be a nice individual, not hurting anyone, helping people in need, putting God at the center of life, etc. Such values were instilled in me because the people around me exhibited/portrayed great examples. Third, I experienced being sent to the best schools and so I have learned the proper ethics, training, and etiquette. Fourth, I have witnessed my mom’s battle with ovarian cancer. In spite of being given only a few months to live, she showed me how determined she was in fighting that illness. She showed me her strength, as well as, her faith. I grew to be almost like her, never losing hope and always believing in God. Last but not least, I am also surrounded with friends who are extremely serious and concerned with life. I only have a few friends, which probably explains, why I am introverted, but I am proud to say that they are all true friends. I have developed a positive personality partly because of them as well. Does this person feel that he/she is self-monitoring in regards to his/her attitudes? How or how not? The interviewee believes that he is not at all â€Å"self-monitoring† (Carducci, 2008). He admits he would probably be more scared if he would be one (Carducci, 2008). He also feels that he were like that, he would not know what to do since he will turn more conscious about the negative occurrences and may all the more exhibit the negative attitudes that he observed (Carducci, 2008).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On the other hand, I am the â€Å"self-monitoring† type since I tend to reminisce about everything that happens to me. I think about it seriously and try to realize what needs to be learned from it and apply it in life. I make sure to try to instill another positive attitude or value to improve my personality. What does the interviewee feel was the strongest influence on his/her attitudes? His stepfather contributed largely to the interviewee’s attitudes as he is the one who showed and instilled good values on him (Carducci, 2008). Without him and his examples, his personality would not have been developed into a positive/good one (Carducci, 2008). He is also relieved that his stepfather had the strongest influence on his attitude instead of his real father who has never been a good example to him (Carducci, 2008). VII. What role does your interviewee feel a persons race, gender, or ethnicity play when forming that persons personality and attitudes?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Ethnicity, gender, and race are three concepts that may be subjected to stereotyping and so an individuals’ personality/attitude may be greatly affected if these three factors come into play (Carson et. al., 1992).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I believe it can as well; but it only will if a person consents to it. See, stereotyping is subjective, and so if only people can be objective enough then ethnicity, gender, and race will not be able to play a role in the development of one’s personality, at least not in the negative manner. VIII. Does this person feel he/she is better at tasks when intrinsically motivated or extrinsically motivated?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The interviewee is more comfortable with â€Å"extrinsic motivation† or when an incentive or reward is provided (Meyers, 2004).   Meanwhile, I am at ease with its opposite.
